{"id":391903,"date":"2024-10-03T10:38:02","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T08:38:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ingmark.com\/corp\/2024\/10\/03\/use-of-laser-technology-for-waste-free-weld-cleaning\/"},"modified":"2024-10-03T10:38:02","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T08:38:02","slug":"use-of-laser-technology-for-waste-free-weld-cleaning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ingmark.com\/corp\/en\/2024\/10\/03\/use-of-laser-technology-for-waste-free-weld-cleaning\/","title":{"rendered":"Use of laser technology for waste-free weld cleaning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The <strong>GDES Revanti <\/strong>team at the Cofrentes nuclear power plant recently completed a unique and innovative project for its client Iberdrola Generaci\u00f3n Nuclear SA.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":279}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The project involved the use of a laser system to clean all the welds on both the 125 t crane and the trolley in the fuel building of the Cofrentes nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The location of the crane in the fuel building above the plant\u2019s fuel storage pools meant that this operation was critical in terms of FME (Foreign Material Exclusion) and any conventional cleaning technique, such as abrasive blasting or chemical pickling, would not be suitable. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":279}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The laser system used for this project sublimated the material to be removed (layers of coating, primer and finish over each weld), thus generating no waste and preventing any FME incident in the critical area of the Nuclear Power Plant.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":279}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thanks to this service, 100% of the welds on the crane and the trolley were inspected to confirm their structural suitability by means of liquid penetrant testing.
