[:es]GD Energy Services ha finalizado la primera fase del proyecto de desmantelamiento del RTS-1 Galileo Galilei, un reactor de investigación de tipo piscina abierta con agua ligera como moderador y refrigerante, que tiene una potencia nominal de 5 MWth.

El trabajo ha tenido una duración de 16 meses, con un equipo de hasta 20 profesionales, en las instalaciones nucleares del Centro Interforze Studi Applicazioni Militari (CISAM), del Ministerio de Defensa italiano.

El proyecto ha consistido en el tratamiento del agua de la piscina del reactor y de otros depósitos de almacenamiento, con el fin de trasladarla a instalaciones autorizadas después de su verificación radiológica. Asimismo, se han retirado todos los componentes activos del interior de la piscina del reactor y se han descontaminado, desmantelado, segregado y acondicionado todos los elementos activos o contaminados que se encontraban en el edificio del reactor y en el canal de irradiación.[:en]GD Energy Services has completed the first phase of the project for the dismantling of RTS-1 Galileo Galilei, a light water moderated and cooled open pool type research reactor with a rated power of 5 MWth.

The work has lasted 16 months and has involved a team of 20 professionals at the nuclear facilities of the Centro Interforze Studi Applicazioni Militari (CISAM) of the Italian Ministry of Defence.

The project has consisted of treating the water in the reactor pool and other storage tanks, with a view to transferring it to authorised installations following radiological verification.
