The MONLAIN MAT joint venture, formed by GDES and MONCOBRA, has been awarded by ENRESA the contract for the provision of the Materials Management Service of the Dismantling and Decommissioning Plan (PDC) of the José Cabrera Nuclear Power Plant, in Zorita. A contract with an estimated duration of 30 months began last August 2025.
This project represents a final milestone in the waste management work within the framework of the PDC of the José Cabrera NPP, a facility in which GDES has been actively working in recent years, being part of the different phases of the dismantling of the site. Within the framework of this award, GDES assumes responsibility for the control and management of materials, as well as the coordination of the associated activities, ensuring compliance with the technical and regulatory criteria established under the supervision of the Group’s Radiological Protection Technical Unit. Among the main functions carried out by GDES, the following stand out:
- Coordination of the activities necessary for compliance with the process of declassification of materials and release of land, in line with the Control Plan for Declassifiable Materials and the Restoration Plan.
- Management of radioactive waste generated during this phase of decommissioning, including conditioning according to the acceptance criteria in force.
- Coordination of activities for the treatment and conditioning of secondary waste, such as technological waste, ventilation filters, liquid circuit filters, sludge, resins and materials from cutting and decontamination operations.
Participation in this joint venture reinforces GDES’ commitment to technical excellence and safety in nuclear environments, consolidating its role as a benchmark in specialised services throughout the complete life cycle of nuclear facilities.
